Shooting in Logan Circle around 11:30pm Saturday

From MPD:

“Shooting at 2335 hrs in the 1400 block of R Street, NW. Lookout for a B/M, 5’10, heavyset, wearing a black shirt.

The Third District is currently investigating a shooting in the 1400 block of R Street NW. An adult female has been transported to an area hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Motorists and pedestrians can expect road closures in the area.

Anyone with information is asked to call 202-727-9099.”

A reader reports:

“There was a block party that went on all day on R St. The street had been closed to allow for this.

Around 11:50 PM, we hear approx 10 rounds of gun shots fired. It was very loud. We looked over the balcony of our roof top and saw the Red Light Bar immediately clear out (corner of 14th and R St). There must have been 40 people on their outside patio — it was packed as it was a nice night. Everyone went running for cover.

Within 1 minute, another round of gun shots went off — even before I could call 911. This time with approx 6 shots being fired.

Within approx 5-7 minutes, about 20 cop cars and 2 ambulances arrived on R St.

One person was put on a stretcher and sent away in the ambulance. I do not know if he was alive or dead.

The entire area was taped off.

In approx 15 more minutes the DC Police copter was in the air search the grounds all over this neighborhood.

There is even DC police canine here combing the area.

DC Police still have R St blocked off 1 hr later. I suspect they will be here most of the evening.

I do not know why DC police allow this block party on R St to go on every year in August. Every year it results in the same mayhem.”

Wubba Lubba Dub PUB, “an homage to TV favorite: Rick and Morty”, Shut Down in Shaw

1839 7th Street, NW

Whoa. Thanks to Julia (and others) for sending. Julia saw these signs posted around 7:30pm Friday night: “Wubalubadub pub pop-up in Shaw shut down for an emergency.”

Drink Company Facebook says:

“Wubba Lubba Dub PUB was designed by fans for fans, though we think everyone would have enjoyed it. It was a labor of love and included hand sewn Meeseeks from our CEO Angie’s mother; graffiti work by an incredible artist; a 25-foot Ruben cut out by our Special Projects Director, hockey-referee-turned-craftsman Matt Fox; and deep references to a show that has made us all laugh out loud and confront the deeper meaning behind the gags. In a word, we are fans geeking out.

Turner Broadcasting/Cartoon Network wasn’t willing to let us do that and demanded we shut down. We then reached an agreement, and thus delayed for a week, but they changed their minds, threatened us with exorbitant fees and then took everything off the table today and refused to talk any further.

The whole time we were operating in good faith and willing to make concessions to bring this wonderful work of fan art to life.

Now we have to lay off our beloved employees and take a massive financial hit, all because Turner Broadcasting/Cartoon Network are unwilling to figure out a way to let a great fan tribute happen. We are so sorry to all the fans but we also have learned a valuable lesson: when it comes to free speech and fair use, Turner Broadcasting/Cartoon Network believes that should only be a joke on the show.

Washingtonian also reported:

“Drink Company CEO Angie Fetherston previously told Washingtonian that the bar–which has also taken on Super Mario Bros and Game of Thrones themes–often has behind-the-scenes agreements when intellectual property issues are at play.”
